Solid Fuel Fired Equipment

Webster Mechanical Engineering (WME) provides forensic consulting services in the areas of design, installation, maintenance, and operation of solid fuel fired equipment that has been involved in residential, commercial, and industrial structure fires.

Solid fuel includes wood, saw dust, wood pellets, and coal used as a fuel to create heat or light. Solid fuel fired equipment includes boilers, furnaces, water heaters, fireplaces, fireplace inserts, heating stoves, and their associated chimneys and flues.

WME conducts on-site examinations of solid fuel fired equipment to determine the cause of the fire and the contributing conditions. The on-site examinations include documentation of the solid fuel fired equipment, the chimney or flue assembly, the construction of the surrounding structure, clearance to combustible building material, the quality of the installation, the fuel source, the maintenance history, and recent changes to the structure or equipment.

WME conducts laboratory examinations of the solid fuel fire equipment and chimney assemblies to verify the equipment’s design and construction.
